How we plan a Scandinavia trip
We start with how much moving you want to do. Two bases in nine nights makes a relaxed holiday; four makes a logistics exercise. From there we build the route, name the hotels, and price the whole thing once — flights, rooms, transfers, entries and insurance in a single costing.
Then we take on the parts that go wrong quietly: the visa file and its timing, the bookings that sell out months ahead, the food you will want near your hotel, and a plan B for the days that depend on weather.
Trip facts
Where people go, and why
Norway in a nutshell
Oslo, the Flam railway, a fjord cruise and Bergen. Six nights, mostly by train and boat.
Copenhagen and Stockholm
Two city breaks joined by a short train, with a night ferry option.
Lapland in winter
Northern lights, reindeer, and glass-roofed cabins, from Rovaniemi or Tromso.
Scandinavia and Iceland
The full northern trip, twelve nights and up.
When to go
There is rarely one right month. There is a right month for the trip you want.
Midnight sun
Fjord cruises, hiking, and daylight that never quite ends.
Autumn
Colour in the north and the first aurora nights.
Arctic winter
Northern lights, husky sledding and ice hotels in Lapland.
Shoulder
Cheaper, quieter, with snow still on the high ground.
