How we plan a Spain & Portugal trip
We start with how much moving you want to do. Two bases in nine nights makes a relaxed holiday; four makes a logistics exercise. From there we build the route, name the hotels, and price the whole thing once — flights, rooms, transfers, entries and insurance in a single costing.
Then we take on the parts that go wrong quietly: the visa file and its timing, the bookings that sell out months ahead, the food you will want near your hotel, and a plan B for the days that depend on weather.
Trip facts
Where people go, and why
Barcelona and Madrid
Four nights each, joined by a two-and-a-half hour train.
Andalusia
Seville, Cordoba and Granada, with the Alhambra booked months ahead.
Lisbon and Porto
Portugal on its own, with the Douro valley between them.
Spain and Morocco
A short hop across for a very different second week.
When to go
There is rarely one right month. There is a right month for the trip you want.
Best
Warm, green, and before the summer heat sets in.
Very hot
Andalusia can pass 40C. Coastal, not inland, months.
Excellent
Warm sea, harvest, and far fewer people.
City season
Mild in the south, cheap, and the museums are yours.
